Description
Prunella vulgaris
Self-heal is a low growing perennial in lawns and grazed areas, but in woodlands it grows to 30cm. Purple flowers in compact heads arrive in summer over the small hairy leaves. It makes fine ground cover and is an excellent nectar plant for bees and insects. Leaves are still used for treating cuts and bruises as a poultice. It needs to be cut back in the autumn.
Sow at any time of year, although benefits from a pre-chill
