Description

Mecanopsis cambrica

Welsh Poppy has delicate acid yellow and orange flowers which belie their toughness. The tissue-paper flowers appear in May and intermittently through the summer. Foliage is fresh green and frondy. Plants naturalize well in semi shady conditions with poor soil. It is a short-lived native perennial wildflower.
The dormancy of Welsh Poppy is complicated so patience is required waiting for germination. Once growing, it is likely to seed itself in unlikely places! A pre-chill is probably a good idea.
